Rauwolfia serpentina
Rauwolfia is also known as Indian Snaeroot and Sarpgandha. A powerful hypnotic and sedative properties. Traditionally used in Asia and elsewhere to aid meditation. Used by Gandhi to calm his nerves. Rare and beautiful. Rauwolfia is native to Asia and prefers moist, well drained soils in a protected, partially shaded position. Frost and drought tender. Evergreen sub-shrub, growing to 1.5m x 0.5m. Clusters of white-to-red tubular flowers in summer, followed by glossy red-to-purple berries.
